When the Federal Law of Russian Federation No 193 "About alternative dispute resolution process involving a mediator (the mediation procedure)" from 27.07.2010 entered into force, a new and effective tool for dispute resolution - mediation - has received an official recognition and support in Russia.

Mediation is an out-of-court way of settlement of a dispute involving an independent mediator, who helps the parties to work out a mutually acceptable solution and issue an agreement on its basis.

Mediation is based on the principles of voluntarism, confidentiality and transparency of the procedure, mutual respect and equality of the parties, neutrality and impartiality of the mediator.
